University of Mobile musical groups RamCorps and VOICES will be featured in a 6 p.m. concert at First Baptist Church of Fairhope, April 13. The concert, to be presented in the church sanctuary, is free and a love offering will be taken to help support an upcoming trip to Russia for the two groups.

RamCorps is University of Mobile’s high-powered, precision brass and percussion performance team. RamCorps performs annually from September through May in 65 different venues.

This year’s repertoire includes John Williams’ “Bugler’s Dream (Olympic Fanfare),” Gustav Holst’s “Mars,” “Everybody Loves the Blues,” “Malaguena” from the No. 1 Broadway hit, “Blast!” Many other selections are also included, several of which are arranged by RamCorps director Donald Wolf.

RamCorps travels extensively throughout the United States and abroad, serving as ambassadors for UM at schools, churches, conferences as well as civic and sporting events. In May, RamCorps will travel to Russia. The trip “will be a tremendous cultural experience for the group,” said Wolf, also assistant professor of music at UM. RamCorps will also perform regional fall, winter and spring tours throughout the Southeast.

VOICES of Mobile is one among the 19 performing ensembles from the University of Mobile’s Center for Performing Arts. The 16-member VOICES presents compelling performances of both sacred and secular music in schools and churches, at conferences and civic events. VOICES also participates in CPA events including “Saviour” and the annual “Christmas Spectacular!” Maintaining a highly visible profile and consistent performing schedule is routine for the group, which has performed in the White House and toured extensively throughout the southeastern United States and abroad. Ensemble members place a great emphasis on a desire to please the Lord in word and deed, as summarized in the VOICES mission statement: to “Honor the Lord with our Lives and Praise Him with our Voices.”

Audio technician is Anthony Willingham of Glencoe, Ala.
