After reading the letter in the July 15 edition from Arkansas visitors who found an eating establishment that did not offer a bathroom for its customers, I am horrified and appalled.

In our day, we are told over and again, that the number one way to prevent disease is to WASH YOUR HANDS, and most especially, wash your hands before eating. How can any food establishment not offer a way for customers to wash their hands? Surely there are regulations or laws that say sanitary facilities must be supplied? I can understand if there is a clothing vendor who chooses not to offer a bathroom, but a restaurant who will not accomodate a customer who is in need? I am horrified.

I am appalled that visitors, or even residents, were treated the way the Dickerson family was treated. To have to walk four blocks to have basic needs met is truly appalling.

I am hopeful that the restaurant the Dickersons happened upon is the only one in Fairhope to be so disgusting.

I shall make it a point to visit cafes, restaurants and other Fairhope venues to test whether or not I may wash my hands before I eat in their facility. If I happen upon one that does not, you may be sure I will create quite a scene. I invite other Fairhopians to do the same.
