I read Mr. Taney Brazeal’s letter in the Aug. 22 Courier with great interest. I admit I do not get his point. It would seem to me that a candidate running-for the senatorial seat for Baldwin County should have a relationship with not only the former senator, whom we all respect, but. even more so a relationship with a man who, as governor, has done a tremendous job for the state as well as Baldwin County.

These men, including Randy McKinney, are aware of how politics in Montgomery work. This is an important point, as I would like my candidate for the State Senate to have some experience, leadership and the ability to think on his feet. Don’t get me wrong; I am not criticizing either one of these candidates as they are both fine men, but the fact that Mr. McKinney has more experience in leadership roles is indisputable.

As for the “two-year college mess,” I hope it gets cleaned up soon. In spite of AEA’s powerful efforts to squash this cleanup, Randy McKinney, Bradley Byrne and Governor Riley were able to pass a rule prohibiting double-dipping, and in the process, hand Mr. Paul Hubbert and his Union a rare and very public defeat. Mr. McKinney stood up and did something to end the waste, fraud and corruption that exist within the two-year college system.

I, too, have faith in the voters of Baldwin County. I have faith that they will, each and everyone, come out and vote their conviction. I know and understand that both of these men are fine God-fearing, honest, hard-working, family men who believe in the American dream. However, with the experience Randy McKinney brings to the table, we can hit the ground running right where Senator Byrne left off. If you think we don’t need that, just review what the Senate accomplished last year.
