On Sept. 11, my designated polling place, Lillian Community Club, an incident occurred that has bothered me greatly.

Upon arrival and checking in with the registration volunteers, I commented on the horrible stench of cigarettes in the building. I asked the lady wasn’t the club a no smoking facility? She said that several others made the same comment but that she couldn't smell it. I have asthma and other problems that are aggravated by cigarettes and smoke.

A gentleman at the next table, also a poll worker, spoke up very loudly, this IS a no smoking facility. “If the odor of cigarettes bothers you maybe you should vote by absentee ballot from now on.”

I don’t know who this man was and really don’t care, his comments were rude. The club is for the COMMUNITY isn’t it? Perhaps, Judge Johns should consider moving our polling place to a facility that is 100 percent disabilities friendly. In conclusion, NON-SMOKING voters are to vote by absentee ballot? We don’t have the privilege to vote in our local polling place?
