The teachers’ union fought the state legislature for two-and-a-half years or more to continue paying the salary and benefits for a teacher in prison for having sex with a student.
The teachers’ union spent a lot of money to stop our state from passing a law for ethics in the contracts of our school employees. The action for ethics was stopped by your union when they re-evaluated her contract and pulled her teaching license.
This problem will continue with pedophiles and drug-dealing teachers. It is apparently, by your loud silence, that this is fully supported by school staff who pay the union to represent them.
Twenty years ago, we sent money to put ceiling fans in the cafeteria.
Eighteen years ago, it was money for window A/C units in classrooms.
I don’t mind sending extra paper, pencils and tissues for all children to share but for a decade it has also included copier paper and dry-erase markers and other office supplies.
Also, there is no reason for schools to toss out textbooks every one to two years. Science should — as should history — be based on facts instead of politics. It should follow that an older book can be used for more than two years. Don’t buy books because they are new and politically correct. Use what you have; tighten your belt.
Also, this is the third time we have been told that a new tax for our schools is needed. No! Three new taxes in 20 years?
Teach our children to read, to do math on paper and in their heads instead of relying on a calculator, how to look up info in a book instead of on computers.
I believe all government entities should and must live within and spend within their budget like all citizens have to do.
Stop funding APT from the education budget. Put that money into the schools.
