Barbara Dunnam Ream, 96, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009.
Born in Goodwater, she graduated from Howard College and taught elementary school in Alabama for 37 years.
She was the consummate sportswoman, artist, bridge player and hostess whose spirit of adventure led her to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where she lived for many years before settling in Fairhope.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Barbara Allen Cleveland and Robert Parks Harris; two sisters, Francis Cornelius of Ashland and Louise Padgett of Cullman; granddaughter, Allison Evans Mead of Birmingham; husbands, Joseph Alvin Dunnam and Joseph Harold Ream.
Survivors include two children, Barbara Stewart Evans and Carl Wilson Stewart; grandchildren, Amy Evans Bergal and Charles Richard (Terry) Evans Jr.; children of her late husband, Christopher (Anne) Ream, Jackson (Joan) Ream, Nancy (Jack) Rose and Davison Ream.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to her loving caregivers, Michelle Riggs and Deborah Renfro for their kindness and devotion.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
