Red Ribbon week is in full swing at Orange Beach Elementary. Students have enjoyed dressing up every day to show their commitment to a drug-free life. On Tuesday, students paraded down Wilson Blvd. to show support for being drug-free. Today, the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department will be at OBES to kick off the “Pennies for Puppies” campaign to raise money to purchase a new canine to be used for drug prevention.

First graders have been busy learning about trees. They are learning that trees have crowns, branches, trunks, and roots. They are also learning which animals live in different parts of trees.

In math, first graders are collecting, sorting and tallying various solid figured candies. They are using their data to create bar graphs as well as picture graphs. After completing their graphs, they will be able to enjoy their “solid figures!”

Third grade has just finished reading Tops and Bottoms and discussing words that mean the opposite — antonyms. In math, third-graders are learning how to subtract three-digit numbers with regrouping, as well as adding and subtracting money.

This week in social studies, third-graders are discussing their community and what makes it a special place to live. They are also comparing their community with other types of communities such as big cities, suburbs, and rural areas. Third-graders are having fun celebrating Red Ribbon Week and are so excited to participate in the festivities to help end the war against drugs.

The OBES PTO Fall Festival will be Friday, Nov. 4, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Please come and enjoy the festivities.
