DAPHNE, Ala.— Abby Parker, Daphne Elementary’s Red Ribbon leadership winner, sponsored a baby shower this past week.

During Christmas holidays, her family travels to Reynosa, Mexico for a yearly mission. They load a trailer full of needed items for people living in this economically depressed town and pass out these items while there. During their stay, they also visit and share items like jump ropes, tennis balls, hair bows and barrettes, as well as hard candy with children at the orphanage, as well as families that live in the surrounding area.

During their trip last year, they realized there were many families with young children living along the canal without clean, running water.

They became aware of the need for diapers and wipes, as well as clothing and other baby/toddler items that were needed by this community.  With this in mind, Parker decided her service-learning project would focus on this very special endeavour.

Parker, along with several other Daphne Elementary Project Jubilee students collected baby items on Saturday, Dec. 6.
