Reeves signs with William Carey

SPANISH FORT — Softball, soccer, volleyball, cross-country, cheerleading, basketball. Basketball it is.

Spanish Fort scholar-athlete Terra Reeves signed with the William Carey Crusaders last week to play hoops for the NAIA college cagers in Hattiesburg, Miss.

Notably gifted in all of the above, choosing the hard court was not hard at all, she said. “I knew all along it would be basketball,” she said. “But especially since my sophomore year. That's when I decided. It's always been my favorite. My dad was my coach since I was four in T-ball and basketball and I owe a lot to him and my mom for all their support. Coach (George) Brown really helped me take my game to another level and I owe a lot to him, too.”

Brown, who has been the only Lady Toros coach first noticed Reeves' talent as a middle schooler.

“Ever since I saw her in the eighth grade, I knew we would get to this day,” he said. “I knew she could continue to play after high school. She has started the last three years and is very versatile. Played a lot of different positions for us and finally settled into shooting guard which is what she's best suited for. She went over a 1,000 points this year and broke the all-time scoring record as well. She does a lot of things off the court also with community service, her Dogwood Trail participation. She's a very well-rounded student athlete and we're all very proud of her."

WC head coach Tracy English said he expects Reeves to fill the shooting guard spot for his team. “She's very versatile, very comfortable on the court and there's a lot of opportunities for her and us. We really like the way she shoots the ball, “ he said. “We knew that some other people in our league were looking at her and a lot of people wanted her, but it really came down to her making the decision. We're glad she decided on us.”

The daughter of Terry and Laura Reeves, Terra is not sure of her major yet, but plans to minor in theater and take part in the Miss William Carey program. "I've thought about teaching and coaching maybe, but I'm really undecided."
