ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — The Refuge for Women celebrated its second anniversary recently by hosting a Business After Hours on June 14 with the Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce.
Formerly “Saving Grace Home for Women,” the 27-acre facility, located off of U.S. Highway 90 in the Elsanor community east of Robertsdale, was built on land donated by the Snook Foundation.
After closing for several weeks the facility reopened in June of 2014 with a new name and a completely revamped program, developed by Executive Director Nancy Robertson and Verlee Young, a licensed clinical social worker.
The Refuge is a non-profit, 90-day residential recovery program for adult women suffering from alcohol and drug dependency. Depending on the individual’s needs, Robertson said, the program can extend from 30 to 180 days.
The Christian-based program works with several 12-step programs to provide counseling. The program also includes exercise programs, nutrition classes, help with daily living skills, cooking, garden, health and wellness, and Bible class. The program has also recently added music therapy and equine therapy programs.
The Chamber will host its third “Ca$h Mob” on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Willy T’s, 21490 Alabama 59 in Robertsdale.
“The Ca$h Mob gathers a group of people at a small, local business at a set time on a set date to help increase traffic and sales for the business,” Rustee Karolyi, The Chamber’s director of operations, said.
Monthly Ca$h Mobs have been staged since April, the first April 27 at Frenchies Café in Robertsdale and the second May 25 at Captain Q’s in Robertsdale.
“They’ve been going really well,” Karolyi said. Combined the two events drew nearly 40 people and brought in nearly $500 for the two businesses.
As with the other two events, there will be a drawing and one lucky winner will receive a complimentary lunch from The Chamber.
More events will be planned in the future for this limited series, Karolyi said. Call The Chamber at 251-947-2626, visit centralbaldwin.com or email rkarolyi@centralbaldwin.com for more information.
