SPANISH FORT, Alabama - The Shoulder is a local nonprofit which serves those suffering from alcohol and drug addiction in our area. Since Hurricane Katrina washed away its facility on Battleship Parkway in 2005, The Shoulder has been borrowing space to offer its much-needed services. This week The Shoulder signed on the dotted line to purchase a property outside Spanish Fort.
“It has been over six years since Hurricane Katrina,” said Shoulder Board President Rita Byers of Daphne. “It is time for The Shoulder to have a permanent home.” Allowing time for the current owners to vacate and renovating the property for its needs, Shoulder officials estimate a May 2012 moving date. Shown at the property closing are front row, left to right, Rita Byers, Board member Joe Stuart of Mobile, and Shoulder Executive Director David Brown of Mobile. Back row is Debbie Hanson of Fairhope, Shoulder Associate Executive Director.
