DAPHNE, Ala.—The Daphne Public Library has set up a Christmas tree in the library with a list of books, compact discs and DVDs. Residents are encouraged to donate a book to the library in the honor of a teacher, coach or any friend or family member as a Christmas present.

“There’s children books, young-adult books, adult books, cooking books, craft books and science fiction,” Library Director Tonja Young said. “There’s a little bit of everything.”

Residents can choose an item from the tree, pay for the item and then tell the library staff the name of the person the book is being donated for. That person’s name will appear on the bookplate, and the resident can create a card to give to that person.

“We thought it would be a nice idea to give something to the entire community in that person’s honor,” Young said.

The library will order all donated items and catalog them according to the nameplate, allowing easy access to find a specific donated item.

The book donation campaign will last through the end of December.
