I woke Monday morning following the 57th Annual Arts & Crafts Festival with joyful feelings just to have another day of life in a serene, clean village by Mobile Bay.
The Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce pulled off yet another great festival. The thousands who attended left a trail of debris and garbage. Most of us forget that during our many events, we have an almost invisible workforce of men and women who keep our surroundings clean and neat. Within a couple of hours following these events, it looks as though all was as before the onslaught of our visitors.
Our clean-up and utility support crews deserve all of our thanks all year long. For budget reasons, this army volunteered to work straight-time wages as opposed to overtime. So next time you hear a garbage truck roaring and cans rattling, street sweepers churning, blowers bellowing, utility trucks rumbling, police sirens wailing, fire trucks yelping, just try to wave or attempt to approach them and simply say, “Thank you.”
