Residents to share talents through workshops

Fairhope and the surrounding area are blessed with so many artists, writers, actors and just overall talented people who are willing to share their gifts with those in the community.

Page & Palette Bookstore, 32 S. Section St. in Fairhope, has found a way to capture their spirit and bring it home to those with similar passions — at all ages and stages of their lives.

Art, creative writing, vocal, acting, parenting, finance (and more) workshops are now being held upstairs at Page & Palette Bookstore.

Marjorie Searcy will have a Vocal Workshop, Aug.11, 2-4 p.m.

Searcy brings unique experience to the field of vocal coaching. Having performed all types of music including classical, country, rock and jazz, her emphasis is on providing singers with the techniques to effectively communicate the style they enjoy.

Searcy is a gifted instructor with the ability to help singers work through their breaks, gain control, flexibility and support. The vocal workshop will concentrate on the Middle Voice Method (MVM), which provides manageable steps to help change and improve one’s singing voice.

She is a graduate of Belmont University where she studied commercial voice and music education.

Searcy’s students include recording artists, professional songwriters, entertainers, finalists for Star Search and scholarship winners. She teaches at her vocal coaching studio in Fairhope, and also travels giving private lessons and conducting seminars.

Susan McConnell’s Parenting Seminar will take place Aug. 16, 6:30-8 p.m.

Raising children in today’s world is a tough assignment. Author, counselor and speaker, McConnell’s passion is to teach principles that can help make the difficult job of parenting a little easier.

McConnell will provide a seminar based on her new book, Parenting in Tough Times.

Parenting in Tough Times offers advice to parents on preparing children for real life scenarios, avoiding burdensome family situations and dealing with difficult circumstances.

The book offers practical answers to complex issues such as teens and sex, sexual abuse and pornography, learning disabilities and ADHD, eating disorders, special families, alcohol and drug abuse, defiant children, anxiety and depression and living through the loss of a child.

McConnell’s first book, Raising Great Kids in a Tough World, was published in 2005.

She graduated from Auburn University and Middle Tennessee State University, and holds a master’s degree in clinical psychology. She currently works in private practice.

Visit the Events Calendar Page at www.pageandpalette.com, or call (251) 928-5295 for more information, or to register for any of these seminars.
