RHS Alumni Association holds virtual tea

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — Virginia Dawson Boseck, one of two remaining members of the class of 1943, was crowned Robertsdale High School Alumni Association Queen during a ceremony held Saturday, Feb. 27 at the George P. Thames Adult Activity Center in Robertsdale.

Born April 19, 1925, she attended Loxley School and Robertsdale High School as a member of the class of 1943.

She is a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Robertsdale where she has been actively involved for many years. She is an avid reading and is known to read many books each week. She is a wonderful storyteller of events long ago.

She was crowned Centennial Queen by Mayor Charles Murphy in honor of Robertsdale’s Centennial Celebration.

The 2021 Tea Party event, planned for Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Baldwin County Coliseum, was held virtually after it was decided in December to cancel the 13th annual gala.

A Centennial quilt, made by The Ole Ladies Quilting Circle, was raffled off and won by Evelyn Lowery.

Several baskets were auctioned off, including a grand prize basket, hand made by Claudia Barbee which included three autographed books by Jeanette Dyess Ryan, teacups, teapot, sugar and creamer, won by Council member Ruthie Campbell.

  • Garden Tea Party Basket, Deidri Young.
  • Sunflower Tea Party Basket, LeJeana Terrell.
  • Oriental Tea Party Basket, Jessica Arrendall.
  • Carnation Tea Party Basket, Donna Petelinski.
  • Blue & Silver Tea Party Basket, Sue Cooper.
  • Strawberry Tea Party Basket, Jessica Arendall.
  • Trendz Beauty Basket, donated by Trendz Hair Salon of Robertsdale, Gloria Bitto.

The alumni association is continuing to ask scholarship donations following the cancellation of this year’s Tea Party, said Lowery, who has organized the event since its inception 13 years ago.. Donations can be made to the RHS Alumni Association’s Post Office Box at P.O. Box 1458, Robertsdale, AL 36567.

Last year’s 12th Annual Tea Party, held March 7, 2020, “Hats Off To Disney,” featured more than 500 guests and included 57 tables with five displays that took up two tables. Each table represented a Disney Theme, an attraction to one of Disney’s theme parks, a Disney movie or Disney-sponsored activity.

Another fundraiser, the Annual Forks and Spoons Tasting Spree at the PZK Hall in Robertsdale, was canceled this past October. In May of 2020, the group handed out 16 scholarships to Robertsdale High School seniors at the Honeybee Park pavilion in Robertsdale.
