The girls at Robertsdale High intend to show the guys how to play football this coming Tuesday evening, beginning at 6 p.m., as girls teams from all four classes vie for the championship in a Powder Puff flag football game.
“Admission is $2 for everyone,” said Becky Beck, an RHS math teacher who has organized the event. “The money we raise will go to benefit our teachers' copy and supply fund.”
Such funding is needed in order to make copies for tests and other study materials.
“The evening should be a lot of fun, and will feature many of the same things Golden Bear fans have come to associate Friday night football games with,” Beck said. “The concession stand will be open, and the RHS Marching Band will be performing.”
The Fantastic Freshmen girls will take on the Jamming Juniors in the first quarter with the Super Sophomores going head-to-head with the Supercilious Seniors in the second.
“The winners from each quarter will play for the Powder Puff Championship,” Beck said. “Each quarter will be 12 minutes in length. The football coaches will serve as referees, and Coach Chris Dabney, an RHS history teacher and softball coach, will serve as master of ceremonies.”
Coaching the girls' teams will be boys from each class.
Although the seniors are heavy favorites the three other classes have said that Tuesday will be the night they are upset and sent home with their makeup blending with their tears.
The following day is Veterans Day, so each team will have an opportunity to recover during their day off from school.
