RHS' Langham signs with Faulkner State

ROBERTSDALE – When Devin Langham decided to play tennis for Robertsdale High School two years ago, he thought it would get him a college scholarship. He was right.

Langham signed to play tennis at Faulkner State last week.

“When I started playing tennis two years ago, I was looking for something that I could get a scholarship in,” Langham said. “I played baseball and football at first, then tried tennis and worked hard to get good at it.”

Faulkner State tennis coach Ritchie Dulaney, whose team finished third in its conference last year, said she expects Langham to step into her top six immediately. “Devin has very solid strokes and a great work ethic,” Dulaney said. “I think he will be a very consistent player for us. I absolutely think he will step in and be one of our top players. He is a possible strong doubles match with Carrett Council.”

Council is a Robertsdale High School graduate.

Langham said he needs to work on his backhand before reporting to Faulkner State.

“They told me they like my forehand and my serves,” Langham said, “but I need to work on my backhand in the fall.”

Faulkner State’s tennis season will start in late January.

“We ask all of our players to play as much tennis as they can during the off season,” Dulaney said. “That way they can be ready to play when we need them to be.”

Faulkner State finished with a 5-6 record last season.
