ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — Carol Young was expecting her second child a few weeks ago. She knew the child was to be a daughter and was excited about that.

She attended church services at Styx River Baptist Church Sept. 27, and according to her friends, gave testimony about how well and happy she was.

She died behind the wheel of her car coming home from church.

Her daughter, Emily, was delivered after that. Emily died at the University of South Alabama Children's and Women's Hospital in Mobile the week of Oct. 14.

Young’s husband. Wayne, and their son Alvin were also in the car but were not seriously hurt

“She was happy in church and we were going to meet at a birthday party in Loxley, but she never came,” said Mary Jane Collins, one of Carol’s friends.

Collins learned later what had happened to Young.

Wayne Young, a custodian at Robertsdale High has hospital bills and the unexpected costs of burying his wife and daughter.

A benefit will be held for the family Nov. 7 at Robertsdale High. According to a flyer from organizers, the benefit will begin at 8 a.m.
