Richard N. Rodgers, 82, departed this life to be with our Lord on April 28, 2013 in Gulf Shores.
Richard was born Feb. 26, 1931 in Tarrant City, Ala., and joined the U.S. Air Force National Guard where he served as a flight mechanic during the Korean War.
After discharge, Richard continued his education and graduated from Auburn University in mechanical engineering. He joined NASA in Huntsville, and worked as a propulsion systems supervisor for 24 years.
After retirement, Richard moved to Gulf Shores to enjoy fishing.
He is survived by his children, Dana Poole of Maryland; son, Neil Rodgers Jr. of Athens, Ala.; grandchildren; and one sister, Elsie Matthews of Birmingham. He leaves behind his wife and companion, Erika Bankston Rodgers; her three children, Sonya Bankston of Foley; Bruce Bankston of Bon Secour and Alton Bankston of Daphne; and four grandsons.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, Gulf Shores. Internment will be held at a later date with military honors at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort.
