Rolf Erik Rieke, 88, of Gulf Shores, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009 peacefully at home with his wife of 54 years by his side.
He was a native of Germany and was in the German Army for four years as a Lieutenant. He was a Russian prisoner of war until 1949. In 1950 he immigrated to the United States where he met his wife in New York and then married on Sept. 24, 1955.
He loved to travel with his wife and was an avid collector of postcards. He traveled to five continuants during his life and collected a card from each place he visited.
He was a civil engineer and retired from Champion Home Builders in 1989.
Survivors include his wife, Priska Rieke of Gulf Shores; and son, Eric Rieke of Lapeer, Mich.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, October 16 at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church in Gulf Shores. Graveside services and burial will follow at Pine Rest Memorial Park in Foley, AL.
