Riley, Byrne should stay out of campaign

I am upset and think all of your subscribers should be upset that Governor Riley and ex-senator Bradley Byrne are so involved in our Senate District 32 election. Many of candidate Randy McKinney’s advertisements have both Riley and Byrne in the background smiling. I assume they agreed to be used in this way.

It would have been much better if they had stayed away from this contest and had faith the voters were capable of choosing the right person to represent them. It is most important our new senator be free of obligations to Mr. Riley, Mr. Byrne, Business Council of Alabama, AEA, Alfa Insurance and all the other big political powers. They should be free to make their own decisions and represent the people.

Mr. Riley, Mr. Byrne and Mr. McKinney have all done good things while in public service. They have also made some big blunders. All three supported the Amendment 1 Referendum a while back that, if passed, would have resulted in a huge tax increase. By virtue of the offices they have held, they have been in position to expose the two-year college scandal years before now. I am not sure who took the lid off this mess, but I hope it gets cleaned up in short order.

I have faith the voters of Senate District 32 will see through all of the political smoke and make a good choice on Sept. 11.

Governor Riley, ex-senator Byrne: Save the pictures for the grandchildren. We have seen enough of them for now.
