BAY MINETTE, Ala. — River raft races, live entertainment and children’s activities are just a few of the events lined up for the first-ever O Delta Day, a fundraiser to benefit the Leah Ann Overstreet Memorial Scholarship Fund.

O Delta Day will be held June 5 at the Lower Bryant Pavillion in north Baldwin County.

Activities begin at 2 p.m., and also include a motorcycle show, silent auction and a dessert contest.

There is no charge for admission. The silent auction will close at 6 p.m.

All proceeds from O Delta Day will benefit the scholarship fund established in memory in Leah Ann Overstreet. “Mrs. O” served as principal of Delta Elementary and was a founding member and president of the North Baldwin Coalition for Excellence in Education.

The $1,000 annual scholarship will be presented to a senior member of the Baldwin County High School band. The scholarship winner will be announced at the O Delta Day celebration. Oversteet’s son, A’Lanson Hoffman, was a member of the BCHS Band and is now a member of the University of Alabama’s Million Dollar Band.

Catfish and chicken lunches, provided by Street’s Restaurant and Stagecoach Café, will be sold on-site and carry-outs will be available.

The dinners will be available from 2 to 7 p.m. at a cost of $5 for children and $10 for adults.

River Raft races will be held at 4 p.m. for youth, 4:30 p.m. for families and 5 p.m. for adults.

There is a $5 registration fee for the raft races.

Rafts must be a minimum of 6-by8-feet, and no motors allowed; rafts must be powered by paddle, sail or foot.

“It will be a fun time together building the raft, and spending time on the water for a great cause,” said Joyce Overstreet, organizing committee member.

The motorcycle show will be headed up by Mary Grabill.

For more information about this portion of the day, call Grabill at (251) 937-0887.

Emily Malone will chair the kids entertainment section, which will include fun games and face painting.

Armbands will be sold for $5, enabling children to participate in all the games.

Everyone can take part in the dunking booth, which will include stints by area celebrities and educators.

The dessert contest is open to contenders, and those who wish to participate should bring their homemade dessert to the pavilion by 2:30 p.m.

Participants must also bring an index card with their name, title of dessert and contact information.

Guest judges will taste each offering and select the “O What a Dessert” winner. After that, the dessert plates will be available to the public for $1 each.

For more information about the dessert contest, call Tina Covington at (251) 580-0434.

Commemorative T-shirts will be available for purchase for $10 each.
