LOXLEY, Alabama --- One man was killed and another injured after a collision on Interstate 10 near the Wilcox Road exit sent one of the vehicles into the median Wednesday morning.

State Troopers with the Alabama Highway Patrol are investigating the crash which occurred at approximately 10:44 a.m. on Wednesday when a 2003 Ford F-150 pick-up truck, driven by Patrick D. Pierce, 18, of Saraland, collided with a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Alexander S. Dees, 17, of Chatom.

Pierce’s vehicle went into the median, where it struck two work release inmates that were working in the area.

One of the inmates, Kenric I Turner, 32, of Huntsville, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Kelvin D. Jordan, 37, of Millport, was airlifted to the University of South Alabama Medical Center for treatment.

His condition is unknown at this time.

Both lanes of westbound Interstate 10 were closed initially as emergency crews worked to clear the crash.  One lane was reopened about an hour later and all lanes were cleared by 1:38 p.m. Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor at this time and no charges have been filed in connection with the crash.
