DAPHNE, Ala. — Frances Osborn Robb will lecture about “PaIring Off: Courting Couples, Dates and Steadies” on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the Daphne Public Library. The event is a program of the Alabama Humanities Foundation—state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

The event will be held in the Community Room of the library. The public is invited and refreshments will be provided by Friends of the Daphne Library.

As America changed between the 1890s and the late 1960s, social behavior changed in Alabama and across the nation. This slide presentation explores the courting couples of the turn of the century, the popular notion of “playing the field” in the Roaring 1920s and Great Depression, and the post-World War II novelty of “going steady.”

Program participants will be invited to share their “pairing off” experiences and those of parents and grandparents.
