Robertsale resident expresses appreciation to Good Samaritans

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama -- Allen Oglesby just wants to say thank you.

The 87-year-old Robertsdale resident and his friend, Bill Phillips, who is 91, were going hunting on Friday, Jan. 25 when a tire on Oglesby’s pickup truck blew out, leaving them stranded.

They sat there for several minutes watching several cars pass by, but no one stopped to help.

But then a pair of Good Samaritans entered the picture.

“I think they passed by too, but they turned around and came back,” Oglesby said. “They didn’t just help, they got out and did it.”

The two women were apparently picking up their children from school when they stopped to help Oglesby and his friend.

“The kids waited in the back seat while they got out, fixed the tire and went on their way,” he said. “I didn’t even get their last names. All I know is that their first names are Pam and Jackie.”

The only reward they accepted was the opportunity to come by Oglesby’s home and pick up some satsumas and lemons from Oglesby’s yard.

“They stopped by and met my wife, who is bedridden,” said Oglesby. He and his wife celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Thursday, Jan. 31. “I just wanted to say how much I appreciated what they did for me. Good people are so hard to find these days.”
