ROBERTSDALE, Ala. -- The Robertsdale Church of Christ will host a series of events next week as part of the church’s community outreach week.
“This is a way for us to get to know people in the community while at the same time serving the people in the community,” said the church’s pastor Andrew Itson.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, July 15 and 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the church will host a free mothers morning out program at the church on Pennsylvania Street.
“Mothers can drop off their children and have the morning off to go shopping or do whatever they need to get done,” Itson said.
The program will feature various games and activities age-appropriate for children 2 years old up to eighth grade, including Bible skits, games and crafts. Snacks will also be provided.
Then on Thursday, the church will host a community-wide picnic beginning at 6:30 p.m. for all ages at the Garrett Park Pavilion, which is located just west of the church.
Church members will be grilling hot dogs and there will be more than 20 games and inflatables for children of all ages.
“It’s a way for the community and the church to get together and have a time of fellowship,” Itson said.
Throughout the week next week, Itson said, the church will also be participating in five separate community outreach events including:
• Organizing and cleanup at the Alabama Gulf Coast Christian Academy, which is located on County Road 28 between Foley and Summerdale.
• Organizing and cleanup at The Brennity in Fairhope.
• Helping with repairs on a home in Elsanor that was damaged during recent flooding events.
• Serving food at Manna Food Bank in Pensacola.
• Serving food at Mobile Inner City Ministries.
“Different church members will be participating in these events throughout the week and everyone is welcome to participate,” Itson said. “Our whole focus is to share God’s love and to get to know the people in the community.”
The Robertsdale Church of Christ is a non-denominational congregation of around 200 members, located at 18250 Pennsylvania St., just east of the entrance to Garrett Park.
Bible study is held every Sunday morning at 9:30 and Wednesday evening at 7 with worship services at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. every Sunday.
A native of Montgomery, Itson has served as the church’s pastor since August of 2013.
