ROBERTSDALE, Ala. – The Robertsdale First Assembly of God will host a two-day event to celebrate the church’s 75th anniversary next weekend.
On Saturday, Oct. 8, the church will host events at Robertsdale’s Garrett Park, including a 5K run beginning at 8 a.m. Registration for the race will be held on race day from 6 to 7:30 a.m. Race packets may also be picked up Oct. 3-6 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church.
A gospel singing will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a fireworks celebration at 9 p.m.
“I think the same people who do the city’s (Fourth of July) fireworks will also be doing ours,” said church pastor the Rev. Michael Lynn, “so it should be good.”
Then on Sunday, services will begin at 10:15 a.m. at the church on Holland Street with a look back over the last 75 years of the church.
“Several former pastors and their families will be in attendance,” he said, “and we’re looking forward to a good day.”
Lynn said he has seen several changes over his 20 years as pastor, the most recent being a new 10,500 square foot sanctuary and fellowship hall. The church has also added property and expanded its parking lot. About 12 years ago, the church also added a homeschooling program, he said.
At the core of all of those changes, Lynn said, has been the people of the church.
“Our members have always served, not only as leaders in the church, but also in the community,” he said. The church community also supports several missionaries and members have served with the local Sav-A-Life program, now known as the Women’s Health Center, and Relay for Life. “We certainly would not have been able to achieve what we have without the good people here.”
