ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — The Robertsdale City Council took quick action at its meeting Monday night taking just five minutes to vote on five agenda items.
The council voted Monday to amend a contract with the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission for the city’s comprehensive plan.
The plan, which was initially adopted in June of 2007, will be amended to reflect 2010 census figures, said Mayor Charles Murphy. The initial cost of the plan was $36,000. The amendment would cost approximately $4,000.
The measure passed unanimously with all council members present at Monday’s meeting, including Brent Kendrick, Joe Kitchens, Sue Cooper, Aubrey Grant and Paul Hollingsworth.
In other business, the council approved the selection of Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood Inc. as a construction inspection consultant on the city’s sidewalk project along Cedar Street, Silverhill Avenue, College Avenue and Wilters Street.
Under the terms of the contract, Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood, a Mobile-based company with offices in Loxley, would be responsible for:
• Site inspections of work in progress and preparing reports of field visits.
• Resolve disputes, discrepancies or questions the contractor may have with regard to the plans.
• Physical testing of materials and equipment to be incorporated int he work and other such analysis or testing when necessary or deemed advisable by the engineer.
• Process contractor’s monthy pay requests. Compute rain days and accumulated liquidated damages.
• Conduct final inspection with owner and city officials. Follow through with punch list to insure all items are complete.
• Preparing and furnishing to owner record drawings showing appropriate record information based on project annotated record documents received from contractor.
• Coordinate final paperwork and submittals to various departments for final approvals.
• If requested, prepare final summary of costs based on contractor’s final pay request.
The cost of the contract cannot exceed 15 percent of the total cost of the project, officials said, which would be approximately $150,000.
The measure was approved unanimously.
The council also approved a preliminary engineering contract to replace or upgrade generators for city facilities with Precision Engineering Inc.
The city currently has 10 facilities that are eligible for new generators, or upgrades to existing generators.
“We just have to make sure the generators are the right size,” said City Engineer Greg Smith. “If they are too small they will work too hard and won’t last. If they are too big, we will ended paying more than we need to pay.”
The council voted unanimously to approve the contract at a cost of $4,900.
In other business Monday, the council:
• Voted to pay bills in the amount of $740,888.31.
• Voted to approve minutes from the July 18 meeting.
• Approved a contract with Pyrotecnico for the city’s 2012 fireworks display at a cost of $10,600, an increase of $500 from last year’s contract.
• Voted to reschedule the council’s Monday, Sept. 5 meeting to Tuesday, Sept. 6 because of the Labor Day holiday. The council also voted to move its work session from 5 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. with the regular meeting remaining at 6 p.m.
