ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — If your child has ever wondered what a banker, mayor, principal, policeman, coach or business owner does during the day, he or she can have the chance to find out when Robertsdale Elementary School hosts its First Annual “Best of RES” event on Thursday, April 14 at 5 p.m. in the RES multipurpose room.

Along with a dinner of BBQ chicken and pork, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, bread and tea provided by L.A. BBQ of Robertsdale beginning at 5 p.m., there will also be a silent auction and various vendors from the community selling their products.

Adult plates will be sold for $5 and students for $3, said Lauren Sanders, event coordinator, and all proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward new playground equipment.

“This is the first time we are doing this so we are expecting a great crowd to come out and support our school. We have a goal of $70,000 and hope we can raise that and more,” Sanders said.

In addition to dinner, the RES Band and Choir, under the direction of Susie Vivar, will be performing several different songs around 6 p.m.

A special feature of the silent auction will be a chance to bid for your child to spend one hour with a community leader or member of the RES faculty. “This is a really neat opportunity for the student to see up close what different community leaders and business owners do at their jobs and the winning bidder will get to schedule an hour at a later dare with the person they bid on. This is available to any school-age student, “ Sanders said.

Some of the participants include Robertsdale Mayor Charles Murphy, Robertsdale Police Chief Brad Kendrick, Ashley Kucera, sales associate, Campbell’s Hardware, Patricia Campbell, Visions Bank, Peggy Nelson, Regions Bank, CBMS Principal Chuck Anderson, RHS Principal Teresa Bryant, RES Principal Faye Sheppard, RES Asst. Principal Mark Doherty, RES Asst. Principal Diane Holmes, Water Boy/Girl for Spring Football game May 13 with RHS football coach Scott Phelps, Bat Boy/Girl for home baseball game with RHS coach Kevin Raley, Water Boy/Girl for Varsity Soccer game with RHS Coach Rachel Baker, P.E. Teacher for the day with RES Coach Levens and Nelson, Alligator Feeder with Alligator Alley, RES Art Assistant with Gabrielle Jones, RES Music Assistant with Susie Vivar, RES Library Assistant with Sandra Sawyer and Car Line King or Queen (can drop off or pick up in front of school for the remainder of the school year).

“We have had such great support for this part of the auction and think it’s going to be a real crowd pleaser. We are really excited,” Sanders said.

Other businesses donating to the silent auction are AcuTanz, Celebrations, Grand Hotel, O’Reiley's Auto Parts, Willy T’s, Hub City Florist, Ivey’s, Campbell’s Hardware, Dr. Pierce Chiropractic, GooRoo’s, LA BBQ, Inspired Ink, Trendz Hair Salon, Stone Works, Vitolli’s, Lee Drug, Island Orthodontics, Dr. Dyken, Logan’s, Dr. Pchseck Dentist, Roto Rooter, Holland Paint and Body.

Also participating in the event will be area vendors selling a variety of different items including jewelry, clothes, treats, gift baskets, beauty items, Avon, Scentsy candles, sand art and photography. Each of these vendors will also have a silent auction item to bid on as well, Sanders said.
