ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — The Robertsdale Golden Bears hope to send the Baker Hornets back to Mobile with a loss when Robertsdale plays host to BHS as part of its Homecoming Week.
“In addition to the game and the crowning of the Homecoming Queen, there will be a parade, pep rally during fourth block on the day of the game, a dance the night afterward, a teacher’s door contest, and a variety of spirit days,” said RHS Principal Theresa Bryant.
Monday’s theme will be Wild Wild West Day, where students will be encouraged to break out their boots and dress like such Old West movie heroes as John Wayne and Clint Eastwood.
On Tuesday students will have an opportunity dress like their favorite celebrity. Such celebrities as Elvis, Michael Jackson, and others will fit right in.
Wednesday is “Revenge of the Nerds Day.”
“Students can celebrate their inner nerd by taping their glasses, and doing some of the other things that nerds are notorious for,” Bryant said.
On Thursday the students are encouraged to dress as their favorite movie character.
“They can dress like Shrek, James Bond, Indiana Jones, Darth Vader, or most any other movie character,” she continued.
Friday is Spirit Day where students can dress in their Homecoming T-shirts and jeans, or an RHS shirt of some type and jeans.
Beginning at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, the Homecoming Parade will roll past the baseball and softball fields after forming up in the teacher’s parking lot. The parade route is down Pine Street before entering Highway 59 at Hub City Florists. The parade will conclude at Honeybee Park.
“Cash prizes will be awarded based on creativity, school spirit, quality of construction, and enthusiasm,” Bryant said. “All clubs, teams, and organizations will be eligible to compete. The winners will be announced at the pep rally, the following day.”
During the pep rally, at the game and during the dance the Homecoming Court will be recognized. This year’s court consists of: Regan Eakin, Courtney King and Monica Shambo, freshmen; Brooke Baker, Makenzie Feller and Madison Strickland, sophomores; Erica Alexander, Hope Carnathan, and Rachel Lomax, juniors.
The Homecoming Queen comes from the senior class. This group is made up of Lexee Bertolla, Kristen Border, Joaquina Byrd, Dominique McQuitery, Caitlin Potts, Nikki Scozzafava, Candice Tolbert and Tiffany Williams.
The queen will be crowned during half-time ceremonies at the football game.
The Robertsdale High Student Government Association will be footing the bill, up to $3 per classroom, for paper to cover the various classroom doors. Winners of the door decorating contest will be announced at the pep rally along with the parade float contestants.
“The Homecoming Dance will Saturday, Sept. 25, from 7 to 11 p.m.,” Bryant said. “The dress code is semi-formal, as the girls are expected to wear a ‘dressy’ dress with the guys wearing a dress shirt and slacks. No jeans or tennis shoes will be permitted.”
The deadline to purchase tickets to the dance passed on Sept. 17.
A guest list will be generated from those students who purchased their tickets the week before.
