ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — In just a few days we’ll be celebrating the real “Reason for the Season,” as gifts are given, carols are sung, and feasts are prepared and eaten. Of course, there will be football games aplenty to go along with the meals.
The students at Robertsdale High have worked hard to raise funds, bring in canned goods, and purchase toys for the U.S. Marine Corps’ “Toys for Tots” program.
Teachers had to work this past Monday, but everyone, including the students, will return on Jan. 3 to begin the second semester. Besides the new classes, the students’ thoughts will begin to turn toward prom, which will be in April, and graduation in May.
A ticket for prom start at $20 per person, and it’s advisable for a student to go ahead and get theirs, as the price goes to $30 per person a couple of weeks later; even if they don’t have a prom date at that time.
This past week the Naval Jr. ROTC held a flag retirement during which 17 U.S. flags were retired. The ceremony attracted a number of veterans, as well as members of the Central Baldwin community.
Paige Cooper was notified that she had won the Spring Fever Chase design contest. Cooper’s design will be used on all of the Chase’s T-shirts. A senior at RHS, Cooper said she plans to attend the University of Alabama where she will major in fashion design and merchandising and minor in art. Cooper was awarded a check for her college expenses by the Chase’s design committee.
Students checked out a number of novels from the RHS Library for the holidays. As one student put it, “You can shop just so much and hang out with friends for only so long,” she said. “After that, you want a good book to read in order to pass the time away.”
Some of the students have mentioned going to the Gulf for the annual Polar Bear Dip. There, a large crowd, which will reach over 1,000 hearty souls, will run into the surf at high noon. Those who have done it have the T-shirts to prove it. This year, Gulf Shores is getting into the act with their own Dip. This one, however, will feature a slide that propels you into the water. There’ll be no easing into the water for those that go this route.
The practical jokes have already started at RHS as Special Ed. and Technology are pulling things on one another. Mike McCrady, the Technology teacher enlarged a photo of Maureen Zanetti and placed the poster out on Highway 59.
McCrady also wrote a poem for Zanetti, which we will post, that is based on some true happenings around RHS. So with that we’ll conclude the first semester by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Twelve Days of Christmas
On the first day of Christmas Mrs. Zanetti tried to give to me…
An old shedding Christmas tree
On the second day of Christmas Mrs. Zanetti tried to give to me…
Two lifeless VCR players
On the third day of Christmas Mrs. Zanetti tried to give to me…
Three unresponsive cameras
On the fourth day of Christmas Mrs. Zanetti tried to give to me…

Ten mismatched cables
On the eleventh day of Christmas Mrs. Zanetti tried to give to me…

On the twelfth day of Christmas Mrs. Zanetti tried to give to me…
Twelve broken printers.
There’s no telling what Zanetti’s response will be.
