FAIRHOPE, Alabama – The Robertsdale Lady Golden Bears stayed perfect in 6A Area 3 play with a sweep over the Fairhope Lady Pirates on Tuesday at Fairhope High.

Class 6A No. 10 Robertsdale beat the Pirates 25-18, 25-9, 25-20 on the way to improving to 18-5 overall and 3-0 in area play. Austin Richardson had 13 kills, seven digs and three solo blocks; Bethany Coley had 13 kills and 12 digs and Brooke McGhee had 28 assists.

“They played well,” Robertsdale head coach Metta Roberts said. “I had them in a different rotation and we had some kids playing in spots they aren’t used to and I thought they adjusted very well.”

Robertsdale never trailed in the first two games, but had to fight off a Fairhope surge in Game 3. With the deciding game tied at 17 the Bears put together an 8-3 run to close out the game and the match.

“I think the first two games we caught Fairhope off balance a little bit,” Roberts said. “In Game 3 Fairhope gave us a good run and coach (Melissa Knight) should be proud they were able to do that.”

Robertsdale will be back in action on Thursday at UMS-Wright. They will play another area match at Foley on Sept. 18. Fairhope will play at Daphne in area play on Thursday.

“We just try to get wins and when we do, we move on to the next one,” Roberts said.
