Robertsdale man dies in wreck on Beach Express

A Robertsdale man has died as a result of injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle collision Saturday evening on the Baldwin Beach Express in Summerdale.

According to a release issued by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by John F. Werner, 59, of Summerdale, collided with a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Mark Byrnes, 48, of Summerdale, at approximately 6:50 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of the Baldwin Beach Express and County Road 36.

Jimmy F. Werner, 55, of Robertsdale, a passenger in the Silverado, was transported to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center, where he died at approximately 7:42 p.m., according to the release.

John Werner, Byrnes and two other passengers in the Tahoe also sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Alabama State Troopers are investigating the cause of the crash.
