ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — One man was shot and taken to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center while another was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and will be held in the Baldwin County Corrections Center according to Sgt. Rex. Bishop, chief Investigator and spokesperson for the Robertsdale Police Department.

“At 11:08 (Monday night) Robertsdale police officers went to College Avenue for a report of someone shot,” said Bishop in a phone interview. “They found a male with a gunshot wound.”

According to Bishop, officers found Raymond R. Murphy III, 25, with a gunshot wound. He was transported to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center, where he is said to be in ICU in stable condition

Murphy is believed to be a resident of Mobile Street in Robertsdale.

Murphy was found at 22192 College Ave., the home police say, of Nicholas Stanley Ott, 23.

“Mr. Ott fled the scene on foot,” Bishop said.

Ott was apprehended, Bishop said, at 2:02 a.m. Tuesday on Wilters Street, near the elementary school.

According to the Sheriff’s Department Web site, Ott was arrested in early January of this year on suspicion of an attempt to violate the controlled substance act. According to police sources, the charge is most often used when someone forges a prescription to obtain drugs. As of this time it is unclear what the result of those charges were.

While Bishop declined to speculate on a motive for the shooting, he did say, “The two were together earlier in the evening and an altercation ensued.”

Police are looking for what they believe was a .40-caliber handgun used in the shooting.
