ROBERTSDALE, Alabama --- The Robertsdale Rotary Club will host the 13th annual PCA Championship Rodeo March 9 and 10 at the Baldwin County Coliseum Fairgrounds Arena in Robertsdale.
Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. each night with the rodeo set to begin at 7:30 p.m. with the event being organized a little differently this year, said Rotary Club President Ruthie Campbell, who is organizing the event.
“In the past we’ve had big name country music acts performing, but we’re not doing that this year,” she said. “We’ve decided to let the rodeo speak for itself.”
In addition to the scheduled rodeo events, Cody Harris and Tristan Smith, local residents who have gained fame on the hit CMT television show Sweet Home Alabama, based in Point Clear and filmed on location throughout Baldwin County.
Both natives of Robertsdale, Harris was a member of the show’s premiere season, while Smith made it all the way to the end of Season 2, winning the heart of Tribble Reese.
The event is the Rotary Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year and has raised thousands through its history. Proceeds benefit the local community, including sports programs and schools, Campbell said.
The annual rodeo is once again produced by Bo Campbell Rodeo Productions and is sponsored by Dodgerodeo.com, Rotary International and Baldwin EMC.
Advance tickets will be sold at Summerdale Western Store and the Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce and cost $10 for adults. Gate tickets cost $12 for adults. Admission for children ages 5 to 12 is $6 in advance and at the gate. Children 5 and under are admitted free. Friday night is Kid’s Night with all children 12 and under admitted free with parent or guardian.
The Rotary Rodeo Princesses will also be introduced before Friday and Saturday’s festivities. The Rodeo Princess program is open to girls age 12 and under who are daughters, granddaughters and great-granddaughters of Rotary members.
The 2012 Rotary Rodeo Princesses are Amberly Linton, daughter of James Linton; Addison Kucera, granddaughter of John Nelson Wingo; Rileigh Glass, granddaughter of Mary Carolyn McDaniel; Rachel Stearns, granddaughter of Mickey Wiley; Ella Rose Brown, granddaughter of Katina Griffin and great-granddaughter of Rosie Sanford; Bradyn Gulledge, daughter of Tom Gulledge; Hannah Grace King and Emma Claire King, granddaughters of Teresa and Kenny King; Hannah Daniels and Abigail Daniels, daughters of Jamie Mangion; Summer Murray and Taylor Murray, daughters of Leanne Murray; Keikilani Mapps and Samantha Mapps, granddaughters of Eddie Wrenn; Ansley Hardy, Abigail Mann, Macie Mann and Mikaya Mann, granddaughters of Dennis Stastka; Elizabeth Smith, granddaughter of Charles Murphy; Moxie McClay and Hayden McClay, daughters of Sean McClay.
The Robertsdale Rotary Club is a member of Rotary International which boasts 34,000 clubs worldwide and operates by the credo of “Service above self,” and under the motto of the 4-way test, “Is it the truth? Locally the club meets at noon every Tuesday at Mama Lou’s Restaurant on Pine Street in Robertsdale.
