ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — Women looking for an uplifting luncheon might not have to look any further that the Robertsdale United Methodist Church this weekend.
“We will be having Carol McCracken and her topic is, “You have a Heart Condition,” said Mary Barnhill, one of the luncheon’s organizers. The luncheon is also under the direction of Judy Cameron and Tracy Robbins.
Before attendees call their cardiologist, they should know that McCracken is speaking metaphorically.
“The heart is the seat of the spirit,” McCracken said in a phone interview. She added that she will be comparing and contrasting two Old Testament characters, David and Pharaoh in her talk.
“There is Pharaoh who hardened his heart, and then there is David who was after God’s own heart,” said McCracken. “We have to apply this to ourselves. Your heart is constantly battling between good and evil.”
According to Barnhill, McCracken is a friend of a previous speaker, and is active in women’s ministry in the Methodist Church.
“We’re torn between the worldly and what we do spiritually for Christ,” said Barnhill.
“The discussion will delve into how to diagnose whether you have a divided heart,‘” reads a flyer for the event. “Solomon declared that even the highest heaven cannot contain God. With that in mind, how awesome is it that He is willing to live in the hearts of those who love him? Do you have room for him in your heart?”
The luncheons began several years ago, and serves as one of the women’s group’s quarterly programs, explained Barnhill.
“We will be taking June and July off,” said Barnhill.
Tickets for the talk, which includes a luncheon of fruit, pasta, and chicken salad prepared by members of the Women’s Group is $15. must be made in advance, and are available by calling 947-4602. The event is open to the public.
“It’s the fellowship that makes the luncheons so special,” said Barnhill.
McCracken says she, “always found myself in front of an audience.” She added that she felt “led” to become a “Certified Lay Speaker” serving the United Methodist Church.
“I have always felt myself called to do this,” said McCracken. She says he skill at public speaking “comes from God.”
She makes her home in Orange Beach with her husband, son, two cats and a turtle named “Moon Pie.”
“He’s huge,” laughed McCracken. “I got him for Mother’s day about two years ago. He’s just a common slider turtle and he wasn’t supposed to get that big, but he’s huge.”
McCracken has worked as a bank product manager, a call center supervisor, an account supervisor at advertising agencies and has had her own small business.
