ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — The Alabama Teenage Bench Press record of 286 fell February 26 to Robertsdale High’s Eli Davis, who benched 290 officially and 310 when he was just fooling around.
“Weight training is something I really enjoy,” he said. “Sure, it’s a lot of work, but as I live on a farm I’m used to working there, then going to Jason’s Gym in Foley for a workout, and then returning home to hit my books.”
All of the self-discipline has paid off as Davis has a 3.7 grade point average. He said he planned on taking the ACT in a couple of months so that he might qualify for collegiate scholarships. During his freshman year he took it and made a 23, however, he wants to get into high 20’s or 30’s.
“I had always thought I would go into civil engineering at Auburn,” he said, “as all of my family has gone to Auburn.”
