‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ 50th Anniversary Tour heads to Saenger Theatre

The cult classic that has thrilled audiences for five decades is bringing its 50th Anniversary Spectacular Tour to Mobile.

“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” will screen at the Saenger Theatre on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m.

According to a news release, the celebration will feature a screening of the original unedited film accompanied by a live shadow cast and audience participation. Barry Bostwick, who originated the role of Brad Majors, will host the evening and take part in a pre-show Q&A. VIP ticket holders will have the chance to meet Bostwick for a photo and autograph opportunity.

“Rocky has changed lives, not just ours, and had a profound effect on how we accept our differences in this world,” Bostwick said in the release. “We were fitted for our corsets and high heels and enthusiastically started singing songs that have endured for all these years. And ‘dammit Janet’! I have made nerds cool.”

The evening will also include a costume contest and a memorabilia display featuring original props and costumes from the film. Official Rocky Horror prop bags will be provided to audience members upon arrival, though outside props will not be permitted. Costumes are welcome, and audience interaction remains central to the experience.

Since its 1975 release, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” has become the longest-running theatrical release in history, drawing devoted fans around the world. The film stars Tim Curry as Frank-N-Furter, Bostwick and Susan Sarandon as Brad and Janet, Meat Loaf as Eddie, Nell Campbell as Columbia, Patricia Quinn as Magenta and Richard O’Brien — who created the story — as Riff Raff.

The anniversary tour spans more than 40 cities in the U.S. and Canada, continuing the movie’s legacy as one of the most screened films worldwide.

The event is rated R and restricted to audiences 18 and older due to adult content and language.
