DAPHNE, Ala. — Christ the King Catholic School announced its Distinguished Graduate Award for 2008 on Feb. 1. Derek Scott Roh, the director of Information Technology for the Baldwin County Board of Education, was named the Daphne school’s distinguished graduate by Sr. Maureen Nolan, CKCS principal.
Roh, the recipient of the national David T. Kearns Public School Chief Information Officer of the Year Award for 2007, has provided “excellent, on-going technology advice to his alma mater,” according to a school spokesperson. He was instrumental in the purchase of the school’s new Promethean Boards, which allow real-time, Internet-assisted learning and are among the latest in education technology.
Roh was recognized at the 8:15 a.m., all-school Mass. Nolan presented him with a National Catholic Education Association Distinguished Graduate Certificate and pin. He also was honored at a reception following Mass.
Roh was named to the National School Boards Association’s 2007 “20 to Watch” list for his “spirit of innovation, creativity and collaboration that places him among the nation’s top education technology leaders.”
The 1994 Cum Laude graduate of Auburn University, and 1990 graduate of Fairhope High School, lives in Daphne with his wife, Jill, and three sons: Brendon, Graham and Aiden. Brendon and Graham are CKCS students.
His family witnessed him receive the award at Mass. That included, in addition to his wife and sons: his father, Richard Roh; his brothers, Joe Roh and William Roh; and his niece, Susan Roh, and nephew, Joey Roh, both CKCS students.
