Joseph John Romane Jr., 66, a native of Chicago and a resident of Spanish Fort, a loving husband and respected father, died on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at his residence.
A Chicago South Side native, he lived a full and disciplined life. Drafted into the Army in 1965, he was quickly assigned to the Office of the Chief of Staff at the Pentagon in Washington. While in Washington, he met his future wife, Dorothy Devis, also known as “Dot” by her friends. After the military, he returned to work at Chicago, Burlington and Quincy where he started his career in the claims department.
Over the next two decades, he advanced at the railroad while living in Omaha, Lincoln, Chicago, Springfield and St. Louis, eventually landing in Denver, where he was ultimately promoted to Director of Claims Operations.
After retirement, they returned to her hometown of Mobile. While there, he enjoyed a life of family, fishing and golf. He lived his life with truth and honesty and will be missed by his family and friends.
“Organization is the key to Success.” It’s a phrase he used often in his lifetime — a lifetime which just happened to be full of success.
Survivors include his wife, Dot Romane of Spanish Fort; two children; Michael Romane of Chicago and Richard “Dusty” Romane of Denver; brother; John (Sharon) Romane of Orland Park, Ill., a host of other loving relatives.
