Ronald E. Allen, 85, a native of Hardtner, Kan., and a resident of Spanish Fort, died Monday, April 16, 2012 at a local hospital.
Mr. Allen was a US Navy veteran of WW II. He was active in Friends of the Library in every city he resided. Mr. Allen served as executive director of a variety of community service organizations, including United Way of Mobile, Community Chest and Senior Citizen Services.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Helen Allen.
He is survived by a son, Ron (Julie) Allen, San Gabriel, Calif.; daughters, Debbie (Avery) Walters, Jacksonville, Fla., Marilyn (Michael) McKeller, Charlotte, N.C., Barbara “Taffy” Stephens and Claudia (Tom) Jones, both of Wales, Nancy (Pelham) Anderson, Daphne, Wendy Shadburn, Pittsboro, N.C.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A Celebration of Life service was Saturday, April 21, at Westminster Village.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Daphne Public Library.
