"font-family:">Rosetta J. Alexander, born Feb. 27,

1932, and fondly known as “Rosie” by friends and “Toots” by family,

passed away Dec. 20, 2011.

"font-family:">She was preceded in death by her

husband, Howard “Alex” Alexander of St. Paul, Minn.; son, Lawrence

Doney of Kissimmee, Fla.; brothers, Orville Jacobs of Downers

Grove, Ill. and Robert Jacobs of Summerdale; as well as her sister,

Vivian Shelton of Montgomery, Ill.

"font-family:">She is survived by two sons, Steven

Doney of Summerdale and Daniel Doney of Elberta; three

grandchildren, Tiffany Doney of Summerdale, and Robert Doney and

Scott Doney of Kissimmee Fla.; and three

great-grandchildren.

"font-family:">Rosie was born in Chicago, Ill, and

graduated from Naperville High School in 1950. She went to work for

Burlington Northern Railroad in Chicago as a rail car supervisor

right after graduation. She and her second husband, “Alex,” were

transferred to St. Paul, Minn. in 1970, and Rosie worked for

Burlington Northern until her retirement in 1980. She then

relocated to southern Alabama, along with several close family

members who were ready to be transplanted to the sunny

South.

"font-family:">Rosie lived in Summerdale for 20

years or so, until she built her dream home in Live Oak Village and

moved to Foley in 2003. She made many friends during her time at

Live Oak, and touched the lives of all she

met.

"font-family:">She was always the caretaker and

advisor — whether solicited or not — because she was knowledgeable

about lots of stuff, and wanted everyone to know the easiest, most

cost-effective, or fastest way to do

things!

"font-family:">Rosie had a well-developed sense of

humor and could tell the best jokes that tickled all of her

friends. She could tell a funny story in a way that most of us

covet, because she could remember how they all went, and had the

delivery and timing that many of us

lack.

"font-family:">Rosie will be missed, but we are all

glad that her suffering has ended. We will celebrate her life and

quote her often.

"font-family:">A memorial service will be held for Rosie at St.

Margaret’s Catholic Church in Foley at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7,

2012.
