ROSINTON, Ala. – There will be a lot of picking, praying and singing on Saturday, Sept. 10 when Rosinton United Methodist Church hosts its Second Annual Bluegrass Gospel Festival at the church, corner of County Road 83 and County Road 62.
The Festival was created as a way to give back to the community, said Bill Wade, minister of music at the church.
“We have a small Bluegrass band and we play a little here and there, but we wanted to do something more,” Wade said.
Last year’s festival raised about $2,000 with proceeds benefitting the United Methodist Children’s Homes and Saving Grace whose local crisis center is located on Highway 90 in nearby Elsanor.
Festivities are set to begin at 9:30 a.m. with The Jubilee Pickers performing until 10. The Wayfarers will perform from 10 to 11, followed by The Rowell Family from 11 a.m. to noon.
Wade and the local band, “Rosinton Bluegrass” will perform from noon to 1 p.m ., during which time lunch will be served with hotdogs and sausage dogs from Farm Fresh, along with baked goods donated by the church community. Harold and Ovaline will wrap things up from 1 to 2 p.m. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.
Last year about 200 sausage dogs, along with the homemade cakes, were sold, with an estimated 250 in attendance. This year, Wade said, he hopes to have about 300 to 350 in attendance and sell over 300 dogs.
“We certainly want the Festival to get bigger and better every year,” he said. “This is not something we are doing for ourselves. We are doing it to benefit the community and we want it to be as big as possible.”
