ROSINTON, Ala. — An elderly Rosinton woman is fine today after a home invasion last week.

According to Loxley police spokesman, Lt. Doug Phillips, Estelle Hayes, answered the door as two men attempted to sell her flooring.

“While the lady was distracted, we believe a third suspect pushed his way into a bedroom and took cash,” said Phillips.

Hayes was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

According to Phillips, police have obtained video of what they believe is the suspects’ vehicle from a nearby business and are going to the Baldwin County Sheriffs Office to enhance the video before putting out a description of the suspects and their vehicle.

This ploy appears to be a variation of the “pave your driveway” scam that was in the area. In that scam, a “contractor” comes to the door, offers to pave the driveway, collects payment, perhaps paves a bit of the drive than goes off for supplies. The scammer is never seen again.

“Don’t let people into your house,” said Phillips. “If you have any suspicions, call law enforcement.”
