FAIRHOPE, Ala. — In December, the Rotary Club of Fairhope presented a copy of Webster’s Dictionary for Students to every third-grader at J. Larry Newton and Fairhope Elementary schools. The dictionaries are individual copies for the students to take home and keep for their personal use.
“This is an exciting project we’d wanted to do for years,” said past club president Amelia Pope, who initiated the project last year. “It was immensely rewarding for the members who took part in the dictionary distribution, and so far the feedback has been very positive. We’ve received some very gratifying thank-you notes from some of the classes, which made us feel especially good about this worthwhile activity.”
Dictionaries were also given to students at Bayshore Christian School and Christ the King Catholic School. The club has some copies remaining, which will be made available to other third-graders in the Fairhope area while supplies last. Principals of private elementary schools in Fairhope and parents of homeschooled third-grade students may contact Pope at 990-5814 or president Charlie Baumhauer at 971-3022.
