SPANISH FORT, Ala.—Daphne High School JROTC was recently awarded the Distinguished Unit Award from Headquarters Air Force ROTC for the third year in a row. Unit number 935 is located at Daphne High School but has students from both Spanish Fort High School and Daphne.

The unit was recognized for outstanding community service and excellence in academics and in drill.

For those students aspiring to go the Air Force Academy being a distinguished has an extra benefit.  Distinguished units are allowed to use the JROTC pipeline to go the academy instead of being appointed by an Alabama senator or representative in Washington  D.C.

Distinguished units receive a streamer that will be placed on their unit flag. Unit number 935 now has three streamers; it is on a mission to get another next year.
