GULF SHORES, Ala. - Fr. George Mary Roth, FI will conduct the annual Mission Feb. 18- 20 at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, Gulf Shores. Mass will be celebrated at 8 a.m. each day.

Fr. Roth’s topic is “Forgiveness” with inspirational talks entitled “The Glories of Divine Grace: God’s Merciful Gifts to the Soul in Sanctifying Grace” on Monday; “The Blessed Virgin Mary as Mediatrix and Dispensatrix of God’s Mercy” on Tuesday and ending on Wednesday with “The Tragic Loss of Faith and Need for Repentance for God’s Mercy”. Coffee and conversation will follow Mass in the church hall.

In addition to the talks, Randy and Laurie Albright of Nashville will provide music for all the Mission services. Gulf Coast residents and visitors will remember the “Musical Celebration of Mary” he performed in Orange Beach last year.

Fr. Roth joined the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn in 1955 and taught in the Brooklyn Diocese for 35 before transferring to the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate in 1993. He was ordained a priest in 1998.

He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English from St. Francis and Brooklyn colleges. In addition to teaching English, Fr. Roth also coached various sports. He coached tennis in high schools and ran tennis programs for the New York Junior Tennis League in the winter and the Catholic Youth Organization in summer.

In 2003 he was transferred to Cornwall, England where he was chaplain to the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate in Lanherne-St. Mawgan. He also gave talks on Saturdays with “A Day with Mary” apostolate that conducts days of prayer each Saturday at various parishes and abbeys in London and elsewhere in England.

He returned to the United States last year and is now posted at Our Lady of Guadalupe Friary in Griswold, Conn., a novitiate house for the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate. He has given missions and retreats to parishes and religious orders in various parts of the US.
