LOXLEY, Ala. — A routine traffic stop for an expired tag landed a Texas man in jail for drug trafficking when 28 lbs. of marijuana was discovered hidden in his vehicle.

Loxley Police arrested Abraham Perez, 26, of Mission/McAllen, Tx on March 30 at the 48 mile marker of Interstate I-10 on a drug trafficking charge and he was transported to the Baldwin County Correctional Facility in Bay Minette where he remains on $1,000,000 bond, said Lt. Tony Lovell.

“There was some conflicting information between the female passenger and the driver that prompted an further search of the vehicle. Upon further investigation, the marijuana was found hidden in the wheel well of the Chevy Trailblazer when the drug dog sniffed it out,” Lovell said.

Having a $50,000 street value, the drugs and vehicle were seized and the female passenger was released when it was determined she had no knowledge of the drugs in the car, Lovell said. “I-10 is a major drug trafficking corridor between Texas and Orlando, where the driver was headed for work, he said. We have two officers working this stretch of interstate for that very reason.”

Perez has had no prior drug convictions, Lovell said.
