ROBERTSDALE, Ala. — The Robertsdale City Council met for its regular meeting Tuesday morning, after taking Monday off for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. All members of the council, with the exception of Aubrey Grant, were present.
The council heard from Chief of Police Brad Kendrick, who told the council that the police department had four items that could be auctioned.
"Some of the items are stuff we no longer use, some of them don't work, some of the stuff are recovered stolen items," said Kendrick.
Three VHS video recording systems and a 2002 Crown Victoria police car might find a home with other public safety departments.
Kendrick indicated that the Town of Silverhill had asked for the three video systems, hoping to make one good system. The Elsanor Volunteer Fire Department has asked for the vehicle.
The 2002 car has about 130,000 miles on it, and a lot of “idling time” Kendrick said, when questioned by members of the council. The car will need some work.
"I don't have a problem (with the Elsanor VFD) taking the car," said Kendrick, smiling. "Maybe they have a good mechanic who can lay hands on it."
The council voted to permit those items to go to the other public safety departments.
Kendrick added that there were two other items that could go up for auction. Two outside air conditioning units that were stolen from Louisiana and recovered in Robertsdale will be auctioned.
"They have never been hooked up," said Kendrick, who added that the insurance company in the matter does not want the items back and cleared the units for sale.
The other item is a green 1996 Mustang that Kendrick says the department has had for about six months.
“The Mustang was awarded to the police department after a traffic stop were drugs were found,” Kendrick said in an e-mail after the meeting.
The council also heard that an inspection had been held on the new Chamber of Commerce building the day before. There is a small punch list for the builder to fix, and the City of Robertsdale has started to put in drainage for the site. Mayor Charles Murphy estimates the Chamber will be able to move in in "four to six weeks."
In other action the council:
— Approved payment of $366,585 in city bills.
— Approved the minutes of the Jan. 5 council session.
— Accepted a check for $40,537.36 from Baldwin EMC. The money represents taxes the utility pays on property in the city.
