Russell M. “Russ” Staples, 70, a native of New Brunswick, N.J. and resident of Robertsdale, passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday, March 24, 2014.
Mr. Staples served in the U.S. Army, and was a Vietnam veteran.
He was a lifetime member of the Elberta VFW 5658 and a longtime member of the American Legion Post 99 in Foley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lydia Staples; brothers, Ronnie Staples and Bob Staples; and sister, Rita Mauro.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Stanton Staples of Robertsdale; daughters, Stephanie Staples of New Brunswick, N.J. and Sherise Staples Stinnett of Robertsdale; and grandsons, Anthony Staples Kovach, Michael Staples Kovach and Bobby Mennicucci.
A graveside memorial service will be held Friday, March 28, 2014, at 11 a.m., at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort.
A memorial visitation will be held Thursday, March 27, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. at Mack Funeral Home in Robertsdale.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the local Humane Society or animal rescue shelter.
